Man I hate this web development stuff. It’s all an over-complicated under-powered buggy unintuitive trial of patience. I thought desktop photo management tools sucked but then I tried these web-gallery tools and the desktop tools are a pleasure by comparison. Whats the point of all the fancy gooey sliding menus if I still have to write and modify code to get anything other than defaults?

I guess I’d have to pay someone to build what I want but I have a feeling anybody competent enough to deliver would cost a fortune. It just seems like the web is still in the days of sticks and mud. Where is the AI to help us?!

I guess I’ll have to figure it out myself

Object Report 1 – tv-ocilliscope

These are some recent observations of a tv-turned-oscilliscope I started to play with again.

A tangled, non-color-coded mess of wires to intercept signals going to the magnetic coils.
The electromagnets normally bend the beam of electrons flying at the luminescent screen to create an image, line by line.
Now I can send the beam anywhere on the screen I want! (That is, if I can generate the proper signals)

stink bug art and study

Filed under: Uncategorized — reade @ 2:04 am

These are my tagged stink bugs. The tags are mine, but the bugs are not. They are just squatting in my home and generally unwelcome. Releasing of disposing of them does nothing as there will soon be another to clumsily fall on your dinner plate.

After hours of studying their behavior, I found them more amusing than frustrating. I decided to start tagging them so they would not be anonymous. I found Expo BrightSticks fluorescent wet erase markers work fairly well for marking their backsides, however, I have not found a good method for restraining them long enough to try fancy graphics. That is probably for the best because it seems that most disappear after a day. Some, like Pinke keep turningĀ  up after weeks of absence. There are always plenty of unmarked newcomers to individualize.

After they have a name, I get emotionally attached to them. I actually felt bad for poor Greene when I saw, and smelled, that she got trampled in unwitting foot traffic.

See the album page for the full set.
